Neighborhood Centers Inc. began delivering program services in the La Porte/Bayshore area in 1952. Programs were maintained in the “Community House,” donated by Nathan J. Klein. In 1965, Neighborhood Centers Inc.’s La Porte Community Center’s activities moved to the Evelyn Kennedy Civic Center at 618 San Jacinto. Traditional recreational activities enhanced the lives of families living in the community. Since that time, the center has continued to deliver programs that build on the strengths of the community. In 2001, the center relocated to the city’s old library for the delivery of services. The most attractive feature of the new location is its close proximity to neighborhoods and schools. La Porte Neighborhood Center continues to leverage resources and bring the community a variety of programs and services that respond to the interest of residents.
